Romans 10:17
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Before anyone can have faith in God, they must first know that He exists. Then they must discover who He is. This is the first unit in the Christianity 101 course.
The Bible calls Jesus the cornerstone. A cornerstone is the first block of a foundation that is put in place, by which all other stones are aligned. So if we are going to build Christians up from the very foundation, the first task is getting that cornerstone in place.
Romans 10:14
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
Luckily, God speaks for Himself—but how? The Bible also says that the heavens declare the glory of God, and that which may be known of Him is clearly seen through what has been created. Yes, you can know God without having a Bible. So no one can say they were unaware.
But the Bible itself is a very important book. It does not just tell us He exists; it begins by assuming we know that through looking at the world around us. The Bible then tells us who He is.
In this unit, I will begin to lay the foundation for future Bible studies to come. The first few studies in this unit are very basic and almost common sense. You may be able to breeze through them if you already believe there is a God. Otherwise, they may be just what you need.
The rest of the unit will cover the Bible and help us understand its importance and authority. I will also cover different translations and explore why they exist.
At the end of this unit, I will even explain what the Bible teaches about the Trinity. There should be no more confusion by the end as to who God is.
At the top of each lesson, there will be an opportunity to find answers to common objections. So if you disagree with something, check it out.
